Mirás Calvo, Miguel Ángel
Professor at the Mathematics department and Ph. D. in Mathematics, University of Vigo.
His research work was focused on the analysis of mathematical models in economics and finance, specifically in the theory of utility and in the characterization of the absence of arbitrage in financial markets. In recent years he has been working on a line of research related to cooperative game theory and allocation problems. He also develops computational tools related to coalitional games and bankruptcy problems.
Lines of Research
Demand Problems
In a Demand problem, a scarce resource must be allocated among a group of demanders. There is a large literature related to this type of problem covering situations such as bankruptcy or rationing, the distribution of scarce goods such as vaccines, food, water, or the share of CO2 emissions.
Weighted values for cooperative games
Cooperative games model situations in which a group of agents decide to cooperate on a common project with the objective of maximizing the joint profit. One of the solutions that allow the overall profit to be distributed among the participating agents is the Shapley value. Shapley himself advanced the possibility of introducing exogenous asymmetries among the agents, thus opening the possibility to the study of weighted values.
Geometry of the core of a coalitional game
The core of a coalitional game is an essential concept in cooperative game theory, because the payoffs that belong to the core are stable. From a mathematical point of view, the core is a convex polytope contained in a hyperplane. A deep analysis of the structure of this set —its faces, vertices, volume, symmetries, etc.— and of its monotonicity properties with respect to the parameters of the game, allows for a better understanding of the solutions that select a stable payoff.
Transfer Services Offered
Computational software for calculating solutions of Coalitional Games
The computational complexity of cooperative game solutions is, in general, huge. In practice, such precise computation is not possible for problems with a number of agents greater than thirty. However, for certain classes of games —airport games, bankruptcy games, etc.—, efficient algorithms can be defined to compute some solutions.

D. in Economic Analysis and Business Strategy (University of Vigo), recognized by the University of Porto with the rights inherent to the Portuguese academic title of Doctor in Management, registered under the number 320220029256.
His work focuses on sustainable development, and his areas of interest include consumer behavior in relation to sustainable food products including wine, and the development of models for the implementation and adoption of sustainable practices in companies, especially in the wine sector.
Lines of Research
Consumer behavior towards sustainable products /So-called sustainable products are one of the most important trends in the food sector today. However, according to the results obtained from the empirical evaluation, through an experimental study and the administration of a questionnaire, it is important to take into account:
- The distinction between different consumer groups when evaluating the naturalness of food.
- “The Attitude-Behaviour Gap”, because the attitude-behaviour relationship depends on other factors, such as the consumer’s tolerance to ambiguity.
- Extrinsic signals, because these influence consumers’ perception and purchase behavior.
- Consumers’ taste perception or consumption habits once they lead consumers to react differently to these signals.
Evidence obtained using quantitative methods confirms that marketing strategies must take into account different interpretations that managers and policy makers can implement to develop and adopt effective policy interventions.
Approach towards entrepreneurial ecosystems /The focus on sustainability is one of the different strategies adopted by companies seeking arguments to differentiate themselves from their competitors. However, companies have to face several barriers to adopt sustainable practices. The entrepreneurial ecosystem approach, as a tool, helps to understand and identify mechanisms to remove such barriers.
Transfer Services Offered

Her work focuses on accounting information, mainly in two areas: the efficient use of internal information output for decision making in the public sector —with special interest in the case of hospitals and universities—; and the analysis of corporate sustainability information and its verification.
Lines of Research
Efficiency in the use of cost and management accounting information.
Efficiency in the use of management information in the public sector is self explanatory regarding the generic objective of this line of work, which addresses, from very different perspectives, which information obtained from the management accounting model is suitable for the decision-making process at different levels in public sector organizations. Case studies of the development of the implementation process and subsequent use of the cost/management accounting model in hospitals and universities.
CSR information, performance and communication

His work focuses on studies related to corporate finance, specifically financial market. His areas of interest include behavioral finance, financial literacy, dividend policy, capital structure, financing and corporate sustainability.
Lines of Research
Financial markets
Behavior of financial markets and determinants and impacts of the different areas of behavioral finance (dividend policy, capital structure, financing and investments), as well as the importance and relevance of financial literacy in improving the quality of life of populations, especially in preparation for retirement.
Corporate finance is one of the most crucial areas for companies in terms of strategic orientations and decisions, in the proper management of liquidity and performance evaluation. It enables companies to identify and mitigate risks, obtain financing, invest wisely and maximize shareholder value, allowing for sustainability and growth of the company.
Studying financial markets is vital to understanding macroeconomic and microeconomic health, ensuring efficient resource allocation, proper asset pricing and enhancing investor returns. Financial markets are crucial for the implementation of effective regulatory and monetary policies and for promoting financial literacy.
Financial Literacy
Studying financial literacy and contributing to increasing financial knowledge is essential to empower individuals to make informed financial decisions, promoting responsible money management, long-term planning and the prevention of over-indebtedness. Good financial literacy strengthens the economic resilience of individuals, reduces vulnerability to fraud and predatory financial practices and, on a broader scale, contributes to the stability and health of a country’s financial and economic system and improves the quality of life of populations.
Transfer Services Offered

Graña Álvarez, Roberto
Assistant Teacher at the Department of Financial Economics and Accounting, University of Vigo.
His work focuses on the use of accounting and management control systems in the financial policies of small firms. In particular, he focuses on the intersection between the aforementioned systems and the most relevant characteristics in the entrepreneur’s decision making such as financial literacy and cognitive system.
Lines of Research
Intersection between financial literacy, accounting and management control systems, and financial decisions.
His research focuses on the relationship between financial literacy, accounting and management control systems, and financial decisions in small businesses. A higher level of financial literacy in managers is associated with more informed financial decisions.
Therefore, his research seeks to delve into how accounting and management control systems influence financial leverage, liquidity, and investment policies in small firms. Specifically, it deepens into the interaction between these systems and the personal characteristics of managers, which play a more relevant role in shaping policies in less complex organizations.
Understanding the mechanisms that operate between the use of information contained in accounting and management control systems, the possession of sound financial knowledge and managers’ intuition is the main objective of his line of research. Providing evidence in this context is crucial to understand how small firms can optimize their financial leverage, improve their liquidity and make more effective investment decisions in highly competitive environments.
